They're baaack!
After a 3 year hiatus that was preceeded by a 10 year continuous stretch after Alice Koster first found the colony in 2007, the Harvesters are back at Dismal Harmony. In early afternoon, I went to Alice's prime spot at the bridge over Dismal Brook but no action. I then walked the trail north as it parallels the brook until it turns away from the brook heading uphill. l was keeping an eye open for Harvesters and aphids with no luck. I then retraced my steps back to the bridge and there they were on the medium size beeches just east of the bridge. At first there were 3 individuals that would chase each other, perch and then give chase again. Then 2 disappeared and were replaced by a Hobomok Skipper who held his own with the remaining Harvester. I left the two of them to sort things out.

Just doing a little scouting to see if the proposed trail along the powerline ROW that runs south towards Clyde Potts Reservoir would be suitable for butterflying.. It was later in the day so most of the ROW was in shadow but the ROW is passable so I will check back earlier in the day another time.
