The N. Pearly eye was a nice surprise and not one I commonly see in my garden.

In addition to the butterflies, I had both species of clearwing (Hemaris) moths.

Powerline Cut just south of Dewey Meadow Shopping Complex
Somerset County, NJ

Observations from 12:45-2:15pm. Sunny for most of the time, but one very quick but strong thunderstorm came through. I was unsure of the access to the two track down the middle of the powerline cut. There is a very old sign covered in weeds that says no trespassing, but the gate that used to block the path is wide open and the sign has seen better days. I played it safe and stuck to the parking lots and edges of the cut around the shopping center. I spent most of my time by the Cafe Figaro. That is where both the Giant Swallowtail and Ocola Skipper were. This spot looks fantastic with a lot of ironweed, joe pye, and thistle. I will be back. Be careful on the edge though as I did have a piece of glass come through my shoe. Two unided anglewings zipped past. Photos of Ocola Skipper, but only terrible photos of the Giant Swallowtail.
