Butterflies observed while gardening until around noon.
A single early instar Silver-spotted Skipper caterpillar was seen on Hog Peanut as well as a single Black Swallowtail caterpillar on Wild Parsnip on the evening walk around the yard.

After the 4.2 inches of rain finally stopped falling this morning, I took a walk through the garden and was surprised to see so many butterflies and pollinators amongst the soggy blooms.

In the early morning hours, I found 3 Abbott's Sphinx Caterpillars feeding on Grapevine in two different areas of the yard, along with at least a dozen Juniper-twig Geometer Caterpillars dangling from the Juniper shrub.

Sunny, 75-80 deg. The Homestead is directly across CR 521 from White Lake. There is an extensive stand of Canada Thistle, Dogbane, and Common Milkweed to the right of the barn. The well-marked Dion Skipper was seen briefly on milkweed near the white barn, far from any wetland.
