A beautiful hike up. A rainy hike back down the ridge.
We did see several Buck Moth caterpillars on the hike up. None were feeding or on Scrub Oak or any other Oak. Most were feeding on grasses and sedges or hiding out from the strong sun.

We also found a single Bluish Spring Moth Caterpillar.

9:30 AM-1:30 PM. Warm but breezy. Lots of milkweed, Canada thistle, dogbane blooming. Impressive milkweed/dogbane patches near the park entrance and also in the northern part of the park, on trail that runs left/right from the gate at the S end of Cherry Street (15 Cherry St, Long Valley, is the address in Google Maps). Azures were nectaring on dogbane, ID'd as "Summer" by default. Peck's skippers and Red-b Hairstreak faded, Red Admiral tattered, Buckeyes fresh.

Milkweed is 20-30% in bloom. Getting to the Milkweed patch is a struggle as what used to be a path is completely overgrown for the first 100 feet. Surprising lack of butterfly activity. I visited the milkweed and left.
