September 2016 Sightings

2:10-3:30. Mostly sunny, 75. As the name suggests, this 281-acre tract (bisected by Lincoln Laurel Rd., where there is a parking lot) is mostly forested, but has some open areas in its northern section. These fields are loaded with Little Bluestem, so once again we we hoping for Leonard's Skipper, but once again, no luck. These dry fields seemed like an odd spot for Meadow Frit.

Only covered area between silo and large field. Found a few Monarch caterpillars and several eggs.

There was lots of activity in the little area beyond the parking lot with Knapweed, Purple Loosestrife and Hemp Vine being the main nectar sources.

Took a stroll around the pond mid-day. Hermine clouds were breaking up and then sun was starting to come out.

11:00-12:50. Sunny, 75. AT parking lot to gravel pit. Another strikeout for Leonard's Skipper. At least Jim Springer had 2 here on the 24th, but these very low numbers are alarming.

Species seen during mid afternoon walk. A Pearl Crescent came to the back door at night.

12:40-1:15. Sunny, 78. Also saw 1 anglewing sp.
