Sighting for June 12, 2019

Anita & Keith Richmond

Sourland Mountain Preserve
Somerset County, NJ

10:30 - 1:30, upper 60's and breezy
3 azure sp.
Lots of milkweed in bloom, dogbane a few days away from full bloom. Most dogbane is found at top of trail.
Area still undergoing maintenance of natural gas pipeline. Crews have dug up the pipeline about half way up the trail for "pigging" - a "pig" is inserted in the pipeline looking for possible leaks, cleaning the pipeline etc. Pig (sometimes known as Pipeline Inspection Gadget) so called due to the squealing sound is makes as it moves thru the pipeline. Lower half of trail is now a dirt road with all the wet spots covered by large plates to allow the heavy equipment to avoid sinking in the mud.
